Shabbos Kestenbaum, a former student at the Harvard Divinity School, sued Harvard for allegedly tolerating antisemitism. He has been an outspoken defender of Israel and a critic of Palestinians and pro-Palestinian activists. As you might imagine, we differed strongly throughout, and at times I found the conversation frustrating. (He may have as well.) But I believe in talking with those with whom I disagree. It helps me to avoid dehumanizing people whose views I profoundly oppose, and to learn how to more effectively present my arguments. I want to speak to the Jews that Shabbos represents. I’m glad he gave me that opportunity.
