I think there is also a degree of realizing that verbal disagreement will not amount to anything because these people do not believe in reason. Both Dems and GOP have long shown their quid pro quo behaviors. This is what we get as a result. Everything will be transactional. Yes, Milosz and Kundera... I've been thinking about their writings, too... Unbearable Lightness of Being... But America is much bigger, more diverse. And we have more technical communications capacity today. So we'll see. Let's not get overly doom-and-gloom. Be more conscious of how you spend your money, your attention. Let's look for the opportunities to build new relationships and structures based on our values.

And thank you for naming the problem of Gaza and Palestinian oppression. Even naming Samantha Power as one of the Chief Hypocrites - bcuz many people were dismayed by her consistent display of the Palestinian Exception, while we watched all these so-called Liberals get behind her. Many political commentators on the Left have pointed out that the problem with Gaza/Palestine is a problem of Trust. And the election results play that out. Many voters stayed home - Why bother? Seems you can't believe in the Dems, not even with candidates like Harris/Walz, whose personal attributes and resumes are more like normal, everyday people than we have seen in quite some time. The should have been the perfect change duo, but they SO PUBLICLY dissed the Palestinians, even Palestinian-Americans. Even the Pod Save Bro's are publicly acknowledging this in real time and saying it's a MORAL failing. They are more Centrist than Left. People need to see that. So if they see the moral failing, then what is going on in other people's minds? The pundits talk about all voters as if they don't have brains. But many do and are using them. So thank you, Peter, for naming the problem - that if you can see the hypocrisy on the Palestinian Exception, then you can see that you cannot trust that person with your own concerns. Those conditions throw us all into a transactional world of either quid pro quo (if you have something valuable to trade) or just pleading for mercy at the feet of the purported king. If it's not about principled/categorical actions, then it's all just dealmaking, transactional. And we got the king of dealmakers now.

Is it legal for an American citizen to serve in the army of a foreign country? Just read about Omer Neutra - an American serving in the IDF - and wondered. And any foreign army? How about the Russian army? The Hungarian army?
